Annie Oakley film premieres in Dayton

The PBS series 'American Experience' will be starting a new show about the famous frontiers-woman and world-renowned sharp shooter Annie Oakley. Annie grew up in Ohio not too far from Dayton in Greenville.

She learned to hunt out of necessity while growing up poor. Her steady aim led her to eventually join the Buffalo Bill Wild West show where she toured to demonstrate her amazing abilities. Oakley is probably most famous for entertaining European gentry, knocking the ashes off of a certain Kaiser Wilhem's cigar.

The Garst museum in Greenville will debut the documentary today from 3-5pm, and the American Experience will run it starting May 8th on most local PBS stations.
