Following up Katherine's earlier posting about the bust of Amish farmer Arlie Stutzman for selling raw milk-
On July 31st, Two Marietta-area dairy farmers, Donna Betts and Linda Fagan, were ordered by the Ohio Department of Agriculture to stop selling raw cow milk as pet food. They had been operating with state approval since 2001, and could not explain the state's withdrawal of permission.
The ODA has expressed concern in the past about vendors selling raw milk for human consumption under the guise of pet food. The Ohio revised code currently prohibits the sale of raw milk as either human or pet food.
This case may be tied to the current campaign by raw milk advocates to legalize its sale in Ohio. Raw milk sale for human consumption is illegal in Ohio and 24 other states. Hearing were held this spring in the Ohio House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee on House Bill 534, aka the Raw Milk Bill, which would legalize raw milk sales. During the hearing the FDA testified against allowing sales, pointing to the diseases carried by raw milk, such as E. Coli and TB.
Raw milk advocates counter with claims that the pasteurization process kills beneficial bacteria, alters the milk protein, and destroys vitamins.
I hope the ODA doesn't find out my uncle used to let me drink milk still warm from the udder as a child when I 'helped' him milk.

1. Ah another case of ignorance run amuck and lobbyists spreading fear for so they can peddle their garbage.
I buy raw dairy products from an Amish farmer. He feeds the same products to his family. People have eaten raw dairy for THOUSANDS OF YEARS!! Industrialization of food has caused this.
Did you know that there is fecal matter in pasteurized milk?? And that is one of the reasons it is pasteurized. Properly handled raw milk is great, healthy and clean.
