Frontier paintball justice

Take a couple of young adults, give them paintball guns and too much time on their hands, and what do you suppose might happen? Pretty the same thing that happened when I was kid with a water balloon or a BB gun.

Joshua Breeding and Christopher Lyons of Painesville were unable to fight off such a temptation to strafe a neighbor's house in May. The house did not return fire.

Painesville judge Michael Cicconetti offered the two the opportunity to avoid 60 days jail time by accepting some creative sentencing. Their first task; shooting up Breeding's own 1993 Tempo, then cleaning off the paint. Video of the carnage can be found here. Caution; it's strong stuff for car lovers.

The Plain Dealer quoted the judge as saying, "I thought about having them shoot each other in a duel in the city park, but didn't want them to get hurt."

I, for one, think a little Burr-Hamilton justice might be just what we need to reign in this latest danger to our vinyl siding.

The two also were required to pay fines and spend 40 hours working on Habitat for Humanity projects.

The lesson learned? Paint guns don't splatter houses. People splatter houses. And when they do, they pay - in Painesville, at least.
