This is a secret: I'm not allowed to "play" on the Internet when I'm at work. My real job, not this one, which is still slightly unreal, if you know what I mean. Anyway, one of the sites I'm allowed to use for my research (and sometimes need to use for research) is the online version of Forbes magazine. And Forbes has branched out to occasionally talk about things like the 100 richest celebrities, or top Americans, or best cities to raise your kids, etc., etc. They have some of the strangest lists! So I'm looking at it before I left work today, and I saw the list of "The Best Cities for Singles," and I thought, well. I am single. I currently live in a city. And I would like to see how it measures up (and if I should move, and quickly.)
Well, folks, here's the thing. The list does include some Ohio cities. We have Columbus at #11, Cincinnati at #26, and Cleveland at #37. (At least my location is still ahead of San Antonio, Texas. Although it is behind Indianapolis, for heaven's sake.) Forbes ranked the cities according to nightlife, culture, job growth, cost of living alone, coolness, online dating activity, and the number of other singles, which counted for double weight (make sense). So we did ok, as a state, although not stellar. Columbus' ranking includes a 22 for coolness, 17 for job growth, and 10s for nightlife and culture. What do those stats mean? I have no idea. Oh, wait. They can get a 1 (best) to 40 (worst) in every category. So, Columbus did well overall - except on coolness, I guess.
Also on Forbes.com: how to land a rich man! They should combine the two lists for a "Best city in which to be single and snag a rich man" list. That'd get some hits on that webpage pretty fast!

1. Wow, Columbus is #11? I need to get out more.
