We need more audience members at these shows! Where are all the Cleveland State and Tri-C students who are bored and looking for a good time? I like how I just threw a "We" in there - these aren't my shows. These are the shows of various local amateur comics.
Allow me to share with you that there is a little Thursday night event that's going to be going on almost every Thursday at the Rockstar, which is above Peabody's on the east side of Cleveland. It's Rockstar Comedy, and I've got to say, it was pretty good! And as opposed to several other shows that I've seen, the show ran to schedule, the music was fitting, and the comics totally ran with the fact that there were a total of... 12 people or so in the audience. I love it when comedians don't let a small audience throw them, or mock those audiences members who do show up.
Let's do a quick list: Bill Squires, Joe Howard, Mike Ivy, SkitzoBill (that's right), Robert Hines, Chad Zumack, Carrie Callahan and Jim Tews. Quite a lot of comedy! It was a long show, but a good one. Jim Tews headlined, and positively killed with a short story he wrote about the benefits from being from a divorced family. In fact, none of the comics did "badly," although I'll say that my personal favorites were Robert Hines, Carrie Callahan and Jim Tews. I'm always bad with remembering lines or jokes, but suffice to say, I'm quite a tough act to sell, and I liked these guys.
Really, I think a fun night out of watching comics do what they love to do best is a good time, and one that more people should try! Every Thursday, people - except for Thanksgiving. Let's try to get out in public and have a good time!
